2011--2012 School Programs:
School programs may be scheduled by calling 765-653-7454. Programs are scheduled Tuesday - Thursdays. Dates available for the fall semester are: September 6 - December 1, 2011. Dates available for the spring semester are: February 1 - April 20, 2012.
Programs available for scheduling:
Kindergarten:
"What is Conservation? / Soil Burger Cookies" Children will learn about the importance of soil conservation and how everything comes from the soil. We will be making "Soil Burger Cookies" to eat. Program Length: 20-30 minutes.
First Grade:
"Do you need the soil?" Students will recognize that soil is needed by all living things including people. Program Length: 20-30 minutes.
Second Grade:
"Soil Pizza" All of the ingredients on our facorite pizza can be traced back to the soil! Students will learn how soil is a part of our daily lives. A small snack will be provided after the program. Program Length: 30-40 minutes.
"Frannie Fish" A demostration on how pollution affects "Frannie" and the river she lives in. A small snack will be enjoyed after the program. Due to the nature of this activity it must be set up in a central location and the students come to that location for the program. Program Length: 20-30 minutes.
Third Grade:
"The Incredible Journey" Where will the water you drink this morning be tomorrow? Students simulate the movement of water within the water cycle. Due to the nature of the activity it must be set up in a central location and the students come to that location for the program. Program Length: 45-50 minutes.
Fourth Grade:
"Farm Fair" The date for this event is TBA, but will be in April 2012 for fourth grade students held at the Putnam County Fairgrounds in Greencastle.
Stewardship Week:
This program is open to 4th - 6th grades in all schools within the county. It involves making a poster on a conservation theme. The posters are judged by conservation experts and prizes awarded. The date is to TBA but usually occurs in the month of April for winners announced in May. Winning posters are displayed at various SWCD functions.
MS4 Education:
This program is geared for Middle School students. Students will learn about Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) ...what they are, why we have them and where they are located. Do we need them? This program is presented in partnership with the City of Greencastle but is appropriate for all schools within the county.
Canon Envirothon:
This program is geared for High School students. Students will work in teams and compete over conservation topics. Winners will advance to a state competition with a chance to advance to the national level. The date is to TBA but usually occurs in April.
Adult Workshops/Field Days/ Etc.
Last Wednesday in January is our annual meeting. More information can be obtained by calling our office.
Other presentations are on a scheduled basis.
